For anyone interested here are the pictures captured during the surgery.

Wow - second Alan's "brave man" comments.
What did you swap out the original filter for? Doesn't the D2h do IR all too well straight off the bat ? Wink

Hee hee...it is not so hard to be brave when I got camera for a mere 350 USD  Cool
As to IR sensitivity it's like night and day with and without filter. Bjørn suggested around 6 stops and my tests so far confirm this.
I left sensor w/o any cover but intend to put a piece of clear glass in.

stenrasmussen - You're brighter than me - when I converted my D70, I photographed it every step of the way with my D200.  Then, when it was completed, I naturally wanted to take some test shots.  Totally forgetting that I'd been using the d200 to record the procedure, I took out the CF card, put it in the D70, formatted it, and then went outside and filled the card.

It was only when I was downloading the images later I realised . . .

 Sad

Hi Stenrasmussen,

Excellent job! Thanks a lot for you procedures. I am think of doing the same thing.

I read from somewhere that we need to put back a replacement filter for the hot mirror. Otherwise, there will be error in AF. Does this apply to D2H?

I am thinking of putting a clear glass into D2H. So that I can play around different IR filters. What is the size and thickness of the glass filter?

Sorry for asking that many question. I am just a beginner in IR.

I put nothing in front of sensor. As far as AF goes I doubt it makes any difference as different lenses may require different focus shifts when dealing with IR (which focuses closer than visible light).
I do not know the dimensions of the low-pass filter...and I need to know now as I am about to cut my own filters to be placed in front of the image sensor.

In my country, we can buy some cheap tailored cut size IR filter. The choice of filter is limited - 720nm or 850nm only. Please let me know if you know the size of the IR filter.

I just cut a filter to fit. Measuring the rubber frame that sits between the sensor and the filter the measurements seems to be just a tad under 25x30mm (maybe 24.9x29.9mm). The filter I cut was 1.5mm thick and anything thicker than that would probably be difficult to fit.

Well, here's a new take on a pic I've posted before.
This was shot with the modified D2H and Nikkor 28/3.5 AIS lens.
ISO 200, f/3.5, 8sec.
Location: Just north of Hellestø beach south of Stavanger, Norway.

What camera is in question here?

I have a d2h also, thinking about the conversion, but there is no way I could do it myself, even with your excellent instructions.  I was hoping to employ it for portrait use.
