Since the switch to the new server, about half of the times I try to connect with NG I get "page not found" or "server not found". This usually goes away within a few minutes but yesterday persisted for most of the day. Just thought I'd mention it.

Noticed the same thing at work today, couldn't access Nikongear at work at all, came home and it worked fine. Not even a "ping www.nikongear.com" in the console worked (linux), which works fine on any other website.

I`m also getting no response occasionally, with both Safari and Firefox! Sometimes takes two or three attempts to get access, it`s as if browser can`t simply find the website! Tony

They switched off the old server yesterday and apparently there was something wrong with the settings in the name servers that was causing some connections to go astray (they were looking for the old name server and not finding it). Very technical, but hopefully it has been sorted out for everyone now.

Working fine now over here (from work). I was suspecting something like this since I'm using university internet access at work and they for sure have different DNS servers set than my home internet. But everything is fine now

I'm still getting these connection problems - "server not found". Most of the time it takes me 2 or 3 or more attempts to connect with NG. This doesn't happen with any other site so I'm guessing the problem is with the NG server?

Dave, I think you may be experiencing some cached DNS problems on your local machine. Are you using any 3rd party DNS settings in your router/modem?

I have the same problem using Safari on my Mac and Firefox on PC. They are in different locations. This also happened before the new server. I think clearing the cache fixes the problem but NG is the only site I have the issue with

Next time it happens can you guys post screen shots here? I'll then direct the server company to this thread and hopefully we can get an answer to what might be causing it.
Must be honest, I haven't had any issues at all and I have been accessing the site using FF, Chrome and Safari on my Mac, as well as IE8 and FF on my PC.

Dave, try lopping off the "www" in the address and see if there is any improvement.

I'm still having problems accessing the site, with frequent messages to the effect that your server cannot be found. This happens equally with Safari and Firefox and sometimes it takes four or five attempts to load NG - in fact occasionally I just have to give up altogether. I've tried all sensible variations of your URL (with and without www. and with and without /smf/ and so on); I've cleared the cache many times and I've cleaned out old cookies - nothing make any difference. Any ideas?
Dave

These problems are totally intermittent. I may get a message that the server cannot be found, only to seconds later try the reload button, and be able to access nikongear. Sometimes it helps to visit another site and then again go to nikongear. I should add that nikongear is the only site where I've seen this behaviour.

During the last week or so, I've encountered the same from Windows machines (+ the Mac) running various versions of Firefox. Usually the problem is resolved after a few reloads of the page, or by waiting 5-10 minutes. No other web site I'm frequenting shows anything similar to this behaviour.
The problem occur intermittently and as far as I can understand, is totally unpredictable. One moment everything is OK. next there is no connecton to NG.

Very strange. I'm not having an problems on my side, but I did notice that some sites I was trying to access were giving me a hang, specifically when they were looking for Google. I have ZERO Google code on this site, unless PayPal or Amazon suddenly got involved with them, so I can't see what could be causing that problem other than a local networking issue.
If you're using Safari open up the Activity window and see if there are any errors in there, or if you are able to post a traceroute see if there is anything that shows up as causing a delay in the hop that might lead to a timeout from your ISP.

Still same problem here, but only happens sometimes from work (highly protected university network) - Ubuntu + FireFox. It's always fine when I refresh a second time and it's only happening since the last server move.
I don't think this could be related to any Google or whatever code, the errors comes way too early before anything is loaded. Looks more like a DNS issues where maybe some local European DNS server isn't holding nikongear in the cache.

Description sounds very much like a DNS issue. I do have the problem of not finding the address also, but not very often.
If I look at the NS entries for the server, I am pointed to ns1-capricorn.webserversystems.com. ns2-capricorn.websreversystems.com.
which resolve as follows: ns1-capricorn.webserversystems.com -> italy.ecentria.com ns2-capricorn.webserversystems.com -> vp.opticsplanet.com
Guess some DNS servers in between are getting more picky...
cheers afx
