"2 in the front, 2 in the back....."
Here are my 4 elephants, all found in India in December 2012. C&C welcome.
1) A statue of Ganesh, in a temple in Hampi
Ganesh is the Indian elephant god. You can just make out his "hands" but the tusks on these statues rarely survive to the present day.
Almost too contrasty, he was illuminated by light coming through the entrance with the back shrowded in shadows.
This was hand-held @1/10s, iso1400, leaning on a wall for support, wishing I had something better than a D300.
2a) Here are the elephant stables, where the king used to house the royal troop
Who'd want the job of mucking these out every morning?!
2b) Here's another view of the elephant stables and their domed roofs (peeping between the coconut palms)
with one of the many ruined temples in the foreground
3) Elephant frieze in Hampi
King Krishnadevaraya's personal army consisted of 100,000 infantry, 20,000 cavalrymen and over 900 elephants.
That lot must have taken some feeding and watering!

4) Finally, a real elephant!
This guy was one of the star attractions in a wedding party taking place in the house opposite where I was staying.
Another tricky shot, with wires and passers by intruding the shot. No street lights so I had to wait for an approaching car to light up the scene.
