Visited Herdla today in really really bad weather and low light.
Still managed to get a (sort of) nice shot of a Calidris alpina:

Yes, nice shoot!

I like the attitude of this bird feeding. Sharp subject with details on the plumage.

Not easy when there is a lack of light!

Francis.

I think the low light/contrast allows the detail to come out nicely,
unusual pose which works for me!
You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a
 parachute to skydive twice.

Petter:

Sometimes the darn weather just doesn't cooperate!

Good low shooting angle. Well exposed.

I would prefer not to have the dark wave line and debris right behind the bird as it doesn't stand out as distinctly.

A look back pose can work well, but is most effective when the head is turned back more our way.

The bird is a bit centered in the frame.

I spend a lot of time on birds, so have pretty strong opinions about pictures of them. Not necessarily right, just what I find works best for my images.

Cheers

Randy

Thank you both:-)
Havent done much birding so I appreciate any tips.
Will go back later and see if I can do better. Its a bird preserve so chances are high:-)
Just ordered a Nikon V1 and word is it works very well with my Sigma 100-300mm f/4.
