My son is setting up a small studio to shoot product demos, with persons and products. He has some hot lights, but having worked with hot lights myself, they are, well, hot. They burn, cause fires, etc.
Does anyone out there have ideas about cold lighting for a video shoot. I am not up to date with LED lighting. Are there inexpensive, but somewhat strong, LED lights? Or can we build our own units?
What kinds of lighting for video are out there that are not hot?
The same goes for homemade light boxes, diffusers, reflectors, etc.
All suggestions are welcome!

I am not an expert in this matter, but I have seen that the prices for the variable color temperature ones are significantly higher than the fixed either 3200K or 5500K options, also the dimming options can add to the price. Since adjusting WB in camera could not be easier, perhaps a fixed 5500K model would be a good fit for this endeavor.
Fotodiox makes the "Fancier" line and is very affordable. The have some 500 and 1000 LED panels going for $179 and $269 respectively. The 1000 LED panel allegedly has the same output as a 1000W tungsten.
Obviously other manufacturers have options that cost several thousands of dollars.

Aputure AL 160 led panels is a reasonable led panel which is doing great in several reviews. (Check Youtube)
you can even combine several panels together to get more effect.

After a short test I`m really impressed. This is a powerful led lamp on max output.
The 5600 kelvin seems to be accurate. I like the fact that you can combine several panels to make a big one.
Its also possible to use Rechargeable Sony batteries instead of the AA`s.
Took it outside one night and its like carrying a car headlight in your hand:-)
Just ordered one extra......US $40,- including shipping is cheap.
