This old lady shades her face and ignores the Falun Gong demonstration. There is an odd disconnect between FG and the larger Chinese community that seems to somehow disapprove of them.

Excellent capture, Lew. Classic contrast between the active and the passive (for whatever reasons the active/passive might be so).
Hope you enjoyed your break in SF, a great city.

Thanks all.
The trip was more to see my son and his family than to take pictures but I did get out some.
San Francisco is by far the best city in the world to visit.
For those familiar with SF, my son lives at 22nd and Castro at the top of an extremely steep hill - 240 feet above the foot.
I stayed at a B&B at 16th and Castro and walked up that hill a couple of times a day.
Took my 15 year old granddaughter out to show her how to work the camera I gave her.
Man, do I feel old.

Lew,
Excellent shot. well seen and captured.
We also have a very large thriving Chinese communuty here in Toronto, and for much of the year at various places throughout the city, you can see the Falun Gong adherants practicing their beliefs.
While they are no friends of the Communists ruling China, as you say, they are nevertheless, mostly ignored and generally looked down upon by the Chinese community who consider them to be a cult.

Enjoy your trip. The shot of your beautiful granddaughter looks like she is very comfortable with the camera they way she's wearing it.

nice contrast (literally any metaphorically
in the first shot.
i take my daughter to a playground some mornings not too far from there and she loooooves watching the elderly chinese americans do tai chi.
having spent far more time in china than i care to, it's not quite as fascinating for me
