Looks like I'll have to walk home tonight

Presumedly "Dam" is the clue to the location and if I'm right you'll get wet feet walking home from there as that looks distinctly Dutch to me?

It was someone else's bike and like many here, looked like it had been left there a while.

Tasmania still destroys ancient old-growth temperate rainforest for woodchips & low grade veneer.

Fred, bike riding in the Netherlands is very pleasant. There are bike lanes on all most roads, special bike traffic lights to give bikes a start over car traffic, and the terrain is flat.

Mike, you are probably right, but could be Rotterdam, Volendam, etc.

Amsterdam was delightful and I mainly explored on foot.From what I hear of the bike riding there, walking sounds like the better option?
However I did find myself having to watch out for cyclists and more worryingly people on mopeds and small motorbikes which also used the cycle lanes.

Vivion is right cycling in the Netherlands is treated seriously and in Amsterdam you have to keep an eye out for them or the riders will tinkle their bell at you, but it is all very friendly.
I love Amsterdam and have been loads of times, my late wife and I loved to wander around the canals stop every now and then for a beer or a bite to eat and just chill.
