Chairman’s Challenge CHANGES!!!
With the new web site upgrade we are going to try the Challenge a little different this time to see how it goes.
Please read the instructions:
1. Member that wish to enter the Challenge will now upload their own entry here in this post.
2. Once the Challenge is over I will make an announcement that it is time to “LIKE” one two or three images of your choice.
3. Please do not “LIKE” any entries before the Challenge is closed. I will announce the time to like.
With this new system you will no longer have to email me your entries (unless we do an anonymous challenge)
This Chairman's Challenge suggestion is from "msphoto".... Michael Sherman is the Winner of the The CELEBRATION Challenge. The new Challenge is "FUNNY SIGNS...."
"FUNNY SIGNS...."
Challenge:
How about a category of "Funny Signs" for the next challenge.
Any good fractured english, funny graphics or similar from your archives.
Any image, that can illustrate the concept. The envisioning of the concept is entirely up to the photographer.
This Challenge will end Sunday July 8th, 2012 at 16:00h GMT
Guidelines for submissions
- one image per person - can be from your archives
- images should fit on 1000 pixel wide screen without scrolling (suggested maximum 800 w x 600 high - 350 k)
- run-off in the event of ties in the voting.
Here is some info about Michael Sherman (msphoto) and the winning photo:
I'm a Vancouver based photographer. Most of my work is shooting architecture and buildings for a variety of clients, but I also love exploring different parts of the world every chance I get though making any actual money from travel images these days is getting increasingly difficult.
I made an overland trip from Europe to Australia through Iran, Afghanistan and India back in 1973 and have been hooked on travel and photography ever since.
About the Winning image:
My "Celebration" image was of a group of good longtime pals. We were up at a lakeside property owned by one of them for a weekend and the only accommodation apart from tents was an old dilapidated house trailer on the lot.
The wine was flowing well and I loved the peeling paint texture of the trailer siding so asked the gang to pose for me.
Just took the one shot but I loved everybody's expression.
I added a bit of Topaz Adjust in post just to emphasize the grittiness a tad.
Added by nfoto:
The entry that got the most votes was invalid. So we do the voting again. That is the only fair way. If people haven't changed their minds there is no action necessary. for those who cast their votes for the disqualified entry, you can either do nothing, or find another candidate to vote for.
The re-voting starts now and runs until Sunday July 15th, 2012 at 16:00h GMT

One of those classic "Only in Africa" signs. For the international folks, a bakkie is a pickup vehicle.

On the dirt road between Alice Springs and Ayers Rock (Uluru) in the Northern Territory of Australia this oil drum warns drivers to slow down before the curve. A corresponding oil drum at the end of the curve encourages drivers to "Puttum back down".
