Thanks for the enthusiastic endorsement, Tony! It is an impresionistic technique that I first experimented with about 3 years ago. However, with the D3S, the high iso quality brings it up a few notches. Here are some of those earlier samples:Superb collection, my absolute favourite is image No3 though they all work for me.
Great vision.

Thanks fof the detailed comment, "enough!" I had similar thoughts with regard to #2, but since it is my own image, feeling more forgiving, pronounced it good!Eb, I really like these shots and the idea behind them, well done. #2 does not work for me composition wise - I find the path(?) coming in diagonally from the left and the red flowers (?) bottom right draw my eye, so it ends up a bit confusing. I like #1, but the simplicity of #3 & #4 are the picks for me.

Thankyou, Ann! The elongated droplets / short streaks seems to work the best for me, too! The combination of possibilities seems "endless" with this one technique alone!I particularly like the shots where the water droplets have elongated into short streaks.
The streaky one from your older set has the added allure of the droplets becoming prisms and diffracting the light.

Thank you, Oliver! Agreed - I did try for sharper droplets in some versions. To establish shallow focus on falling droplets is much trial and error. As far as static droplets, even at 1/8000 sec., there is still the slightest elongation. But, with #2, there definitely was room for improvement since speed was at only 1/1250 sec. and iso 1600!This is a very good idea. The second and third stand out for me. The second would be ideal if the droplets were really sharp or static. The third is perfect for me as it is!
