This is to announce the intentions for a Nikongear-based workshop planned to take place in the UK, probably medio September, 2012. Local organiser will be Damian (NG member 'black_bird_blue'), and instructor nfoto (aka The Fierce Bear of the north).
Basically the intentions are to follow the principles of the !st NG workshop (4-6 May, 2012). The workshop runs from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon and is directed towards regional members of NG so travelling costs can be reduced. There is no problem attending even if you come from abroad or aren't - yet - a member of NG, though. We intend to keep prices as low as possible. More details on this will appear later.
There is a maximum of 15 members who can attend, and the minimum requirement for the arrangement is 7-8 persons.
So, cast your vote to allow us to assess the potential interest for such an event.

I'm interested.
Can you let me know location and expected dates? It's the right month to count as a birthday present for me!

Current plan is Cannock Chase in Staffordshire - chosen to be reasonably central...I'm crossing my fingers enough of us want it!

Count me in
And I wouldn't mind an extension before and/or after the workshop.

Without knowing the details of the location(s), I can't say yet. However, a basic principle of such arrangements is to restrict travelling around to a minimum. We're more likely to split into smaller groups and solve challenges.
I anticipate a lot more of this will be evident when the Herdla workshop (4-6 May) runs and people attending post their reports.

Damian (black_bird_blue) has to provide the location. I'll let him elaborate.(he answered whilse I was typing)

I would be interested if it were earlier.
My wife should be giving birth right in the middle of the proposed dates.
If it were mid-august I'd probably go.

Family comes first.
While this is the first suggested UK workshop, hopefully it might not be the last

Based on the past experiences of successful meetings in Norway, it is not a vain hope.
Maybe next year...

I am so sorry that I can't make it because I will be chasing wild flowers with Pepe in the Western Cape at that time — just a little Hors d'Oeuvre and warm-up before we hit a feast of leopards and lions at SabiSabi again!

But have fun, anyway — as I am sure that you will.

Not any specific topic unless there is a demand for that amongst the participants. We will focus (!) on the process of making images, that is going from from stages of 'why' over 'where' and 'when' to end up with 'how'. You could say it's about better understanding of yourself as a photographer and learning to observe in visual terms. In practice we'll work in small groups solving challenges and discussing the outcomes. Lots of time allocated for critique of pictures as well.
Questions of equipment and techniques for shooting are allowed too - in case anyone wondered. But the workshops are not gear-centric.
