I recently bought this lens on craigslist, I have no idea what it was used for but it is a beautiful lens. I have emailed Nikon and they have been sending it all around the company trying to help me figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Who or whatever created life on this planet had a good day when they came up

with the bald eagle, what a breathtakingly beautiful creature, just wish they would

sit still, they are rarely motionless, very inquisitive with senses so highly tuned.

Really impressed with how well the d7100 contains the highlights, my d3/d700

actually struggles with bright whites in comparison.

D7100 shows wonderful detail, and excels at lower or near base iso.

I know the depth of focus does not extend over the whole subject, I was mainly

concerned with the eyes/face.

The fifth one is with Fujifilm X20.

The scary one in the end is with a stock Panny G3 with a dense (830nm) IR filter showed into the lens hood.

it was intimate,   and beautiful to see how much they loved each other.

The are not young anymore - he is almost 60, so these are not posed images. They were captured in the moment.

"I never use the AF Fine Tune feature on any of my cameras — it's not needed.

The only time I need AF Fine Tune is with the occasional off-brand lens, or the very odd sample of older AF lens from the 1980s.

So long as you stick to real (Nikon, Canon or LEICA) lenses and are buying reasonably new products from the past 10 years or so, DSLRs have all the proper corrections already in their firmware.

AF Fine tune is only needed for one in twenty BAD old lenses. Modern lenses almost never need any tuning, it's only for old ones from the 1980s you already have in your collection if you're an old-timer like me — or maybe if you have some junk from Sigma or Tamron or whoever you're still trying to use with your new camera.

If you're buying new lenses for your new cameras, AF Fine Tune will only make your photos worse by screwing with it. Sure, if you have a bad lens AF fine tune might help, but why use bad lenses, and why buy a new camera if it's a lens that needs to be replaced?"

Guess he needs spectacles, or has aperture always set at f/22.

I think it works really well, so much so that I'll do it again.

Still water works best, and if the light levels produce contrast between the subject

and the water so much the better.

I did have to remove numerous out of focus insects on the surface which looked like the worst case

of sensor contamination you've ever seen

it's a touch obvious 

Oh yeah and the ipad makes a very handy portable light table, though had to use a 

sheet of paper to hide the pixels which the d7100 photographed with amazing detail

otherwise. It also doubles as a convenient yet subtle light source with the "SoftBox Pro" 

app.

In brief, the subjects were photographed through the windows of their flats in a New York high rise by a photographer across the street in his apartment.  He was not visible.  Their faces do not appear in the images.

Let me add that under the unusual and vague Texas Improper Photography law there is some risk of prosecution.

I've taken these images out of this topic http://nikongear.com/live/index.php?/topic/49655-norwegian-spring-impressions-2013/ as not all members appreciated being confronted by them without warning and I don't want to offend anybody within our little community, I thought that posting a second similar image might do so.

The first image was taken with the 70-200/4VR and the second with the 200/2VR and 1/7TC.

For me shooting slide film the picture was made at the time of the click.

For people shooting negatives the picture was made in the lab later.

I confess:

I shoot RAW only as a backup -- I feel free and daring shooting JPEG only without backup -- My results are better than most results from RAW shooters who have been sitting through the long hours of post processing, while I was taking more pictures -- if I got it right I do not need the RAW -- why not do it right from the very start? -- RAW is for Sissies -- RAW is for paid jobs -- JPEG is freedom -- JPEG is art -- postprocessing is for printers and graphics people not for photographers.

None of the pictures in the following scribble of a book (first beta version) is edited in any way. In camera settings "neutral, sharpness=0, contrast=0"

I did not shoot JPEG only, because it was a job, but what do I need a RAW for, if I got it right?

PS: the PDF is intentionally scrapped down to nearly unusable compression rate.

I met this guy on my way back from work, lucky me.

With 100% crop. Manual focussing (instant override with loupe in the EVF, a blessing)

That may not be my best shot, it may not even be a good one, but she liked it a lot. One of the limits I set to myself is not to interfere - no posing, no lighting, no instructions.

And for those who wonder: this lady knows here trade - quite a bit.

Shot at dusk with D800 + Sigma 35/1.4 @ 2.8, 1/25s handheld (with shutter delay though), 6400 ISO. Mix of very dim and blue remaining skylight, plus public floodlight.

I thought the light was interesting (at least for experimental purposes). This lens seems well-behaved also.

D800 and old 55/3.5 + PK.
