From the series “Landscapes in my eyes (Belitung-Indonesia)” by amlbuton

Nominated by: Joemc (Joe McBroom)
“Beautifully composed and wonderfully exposed…. A pleasure to view!!”
Chosen by: esym (Bill Symmes)
“There are some very good technical shots this week so this choice was difficult to say the least!
My pick goes to Joemc’s nomination, amlbuton’s “Landscape in my eyes - Tanjung Kelayang (#4). This is a peaceful and yet very colorful landscape, with just the right amount of blur in the water. Wonderful control of the bright reds in a sunset and excellent composition.”

“Big 5″ Wildlife Safaris 2011

Nikongear.com will be hosting two more group safaris at the amazing Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in the greater Kruger National Park in 2011. These exclusive trips will happen in May and October at the secluded and exclusive 5 star “Little Bush Camp” (one of the 4 famous Sabi Sabi properties).
We book out the entire camp of 6 suites for our group safaris and are therefore able to offer our guests unrivalled and relaxed photo opportunities from our two exclusive use game viewing Land Rovers (each fitted with clamps specifically for camera supports).
Each vehicle is driven by a highly qualified and experienced Field Ranger and we are also accompanied by skilled Shangaan trackers, who are able to lead us off road to the best game sightings for photographic opportunities.
We have already fielded quite a few inquiries for our 2011 safaris and we expect that once the material from our upcoming October 2010 trip hits the forum the suites for next year will sell out fast. If you would like to join the “Safarians” and book your own suite for 2011 now please contact Dallas ASAP.

“oia … cyclades, greece” by yunfat (Taran Morgan)

Nominated by: Ann (Ann Shelbourne)
“I love the perspective and the balance of the two blue areas: the descending stairs in the foreground at the bottom of the picture and the almost indigo sky at the top. Both of these blue areas then envelope a view filled with perfectly juxtaposed and complementary shapes.”
Chosen by: Stenrasmussen (Sten Rasmussen)
“Once again, a very good selection to pick from. The nominees are all worthy contenders and my shortlist was down to three candidates. But since my internal jury has to cast a verdict Yunfat’s picture from Greece became the victor. The delicate white against the blue in this nice composition certainly shows why the Greek flag carries these two colors. Thrown in is the brown that accentuates this classical scene - setting apart from the normal post card. And, I’ve just been to Greece (Crete) so that may have something to do with my choice as well. To all photos here; well done! To Yunfat; Congrats!”

Nominated by: Bilbo999 (Glenn Hewitt)
“I really like “rbsandor’s” Lion Brothers. I like the tones the detail and the luck of being there to get this shot.”
Chosen by: Chris Fabbri
“Very hard week as usual. It’s difficult to me to choose an image with no human beings involved on the scene. But, the lions shot from Rbsandor shows us an almost human moment of affection. Despite the technical mastering involved (perfect exposition, golden light, details, etc.) there’s also the perfect place at perfect time bonus, and this is important to get a special image. This is a fantastic image. Special Congrats to rbsandor (the winner) and also congrats to all other nominated shots, pretty high quality too.”

Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor
If you are an avid outdoor photographer but your budget doesn’t extend to the point where you are able to afford the super expensive telephoto glass that Nikon produces, this lens is the one to get.
It’s lightweight at only 26.3oz (737g) but it features ED glass as well as Nikon’s proven Vibration Reduction technology.
It is astonishingly sharp for what is considered to be a budget lens and was the primary lens for Dallas during the 2009 Nikongear.com Safari. Most of the wildlife images found in this gallery were shot using this lens.

“I’ll Be Watching You” by SonyaM

Nominated by: Ann (Ann Shelbourne)
“For the lovely lighting, soft colours and creative use of props.”
Chosen by: Dallas (Dallas Dahms)
“All the nominations this week are all strikingly good images, but the one that stands out for me as being the most striking, is that of the self portrait “I’ll Be Watching You” by SonyaM. As Ann says it blends a creative use of props with soft colours, the hues in the prop matching Sonya’s make-up, but the critical factor for me in deciding to award this as POTW #199 is that it is a self portrait. These are really hard to do well and yet Sonya seems to nail it every time. Well done!”

“Slice it” by MartinK (Martin Kramer)

Nominated by: Ann (Ann Shelbourne)
“For the technical virtuosity in taking a concept and using both Camera and Photoshop skills to bring it to Fruition (the pun is not unintentional!).”
Chosen by: afx (Andreas Siegert)
“I choose Martins “Slice It” because: the technical achievement of getting the blur/sharpness component just right and the balance of the composition. I also like it that the image stays completely in the greens (though I wonder what a red apple would do for the shot.
It also poses some interesting questions on how it was done. Still not sure if this is a real shot or just a clever setup.”

Pic Of The Week #196
“B.I.F. (Bee In Flight)” by Joemc

Nominated by: Chris Fabbri
“A perfect speed to freeze the bee while let the wings with the sense of movement, a great dark background and isolation showing the control of light aperture. A very hard shot to get, done with perfection.”
Chosen by: Ann
“The standard just seems to get higher at NG week after week! With great difficulty I eventually whittled the nominations down to three “finalists”. Joe’s “Bee in Flight”; Andrea’a “IR Musk-mallow Translucency”; and Morten’s enchanting “Trip to the Woods with my Daughter”. Now, at three minutes before midnight a decision must be made: All of the finalists show beautiful subjects but the sheer technical virtuosity of the lighting, exposure, color balance and sharpness (coupled with flawless processing) finally tipped the scales in favour of Joe’s “Bee in Flight” for POTW.”

Pic Of The Week #195

“My nomination goes to cw’s Schynige Platte (Swiss Alps) photo #4. This is a beautifully done landscape with an interesting layer of clouds — a classic scene shot by probably millions of photographers, but, never the less, a beautiful place. This capture is exceptional.”
Chosen by: MarkD3
“Although it was quite a struggle to choose from so many excellent submissions, I am choosing cw’s Schynige Platte (Swiss Alps) photo #4. I find this image to be not only beautiful in it’s scenic content but also intriguing in an almost mystical way. The low sun provides nice shadow cast and the exposure is well balanced for the high and low extremes. Well done.”
